Villaverde de Medina
Village
Villaverde de Medina is a village in the province of Valladolid which until the reform of municipal names in 1916 was called simply Villaverde, born from the union of three hamlets: Romaguitardo, Dueñas and Carrioncillo. Its church of Nuestra Señora del Castillo, built of brick, has a Renaissance chancel from the 16th century and a Baroque body from the 18th, with a nave covered by a barrel vault with lunettes; it preserves paintings in the sacristy and a main altarpiece by Gregorio Fernández, along with four other altarpieces by the same author. It has 497 inhabitants and celebrates its festivities of San Gregorio from 8 to 11 May, with a large paella for more than a thousand diners, and the Virgen del Carmen, of a bullfighting character, around 16 July.
