What to see and do in Velascálvaro

Velascálvaro
Village
Velascálvaro is a hamlet in the Tierra de Medina, in the province of Valladolid, in the judicial district of Medina del Campo, at an altitude of 800 metres and covering almost 23 km² of flat, brackish, medium-quality land. According to Pascual Madoz's dictionary (1849), it then had about 40 houses and a parish church served by a priest and sexton, the mother church of that of Fuente la Piedra. It celebrates La Rosaria on 2 July and San Juan Evangelista, its church, on 27 December. It reached 296 inhabitants in 1940; in the mid-19th century it had barely 104 registered residents, and today, 156.

Monument
The parish dedicated to the evangelist crowns the small rise on which the houses sit, described by Madoz with forty houses and a school of first letters in the middle of the nineteenth century.
