Vega de Ruiponce
Village
Vega de Ruiponce is a municipality of about 81 inhabitants on the banks of the río Valderaduey, in the Tierra de Campos comarca, province of Valladolid, which owes its name to Ruy Ponce de León, lord of La Vega in the second half of the 14th century. Its vega lands still support an economy geared toward farming and livestock. The church of San Salvador, from the 16th century, holds a sculpture of San Blas by Alejo de Vahía, and in the hermitage of the Cristo de la Vera Cruz, on the outskirts, a life-size Christ carved by Gregorio Fernández is venerated. Its main festivals are on 3 May, with vespers at the hermitage, and on 13 September.
