Melgar de Abajo
Village
Melgar de Abajo is a village in Tierra de Campos, in the province of Valladolid, with around 115 inhabitants, set beside the río Cea, which supplies the village with water and irrigates its vegetable gardens, and surrounded by the dovecotes typical of the comarca. In a deforested area where cereals and vines predominate, it keeps two wineries and a sausage factory of local tradition, besides selling riverside poplar timber. It preserves the Mudéjar church of San Juan and that of Salvador, restored in 2010. Its festivities are the patronal ones of Santa Isabel, from 1 to 4 July, and San Juan Evangelista, from 27 to 29 December.
