What to see and do in Rebollar

Rebollar
Village
Rebollar is a hamlet in the comarca of El Valle y La Vega Cintora, in the north of the province of Soria, with 36 residents, bathed by the río Tera, a tributary of the Duero, and surrounded by the sierras of Montes Claros, Tabanera and Carcaña; 15% of its territory lies within the Site of Community Interest of the Sierras de Urbión y Cebollera. During the Middle Ages it belonged to the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Soria, within the sexmo of Tera, and the 1528 Censo de Pecheros (tax census) recorded 54 taxpaying family units in the place, including the residents of the annexed Comparacoces. By the mid-19th century it had 70 houses, against the scant thirty residents of today. It has a church dedicated to San Andrés Apóstol.
The Church of San Andrés
Monument
The parish church of this small village bathed by the Tera preserves Gothic features and is, together with the hermitage of La Soledad, the heritage ensemble that orders the whitewashed rubble-masonry houses.
The Hermitage of the Soledad
Monument
A small place of worship on the outskirts of the village, dedicated to the Virgen de la Soledad; its plain rubble masonry follows the model of mountain hermitage repeated throughout the Tera valley.
The Tera as It Flows through Rebollar
Nature
The river that comes down from the Sierra Cebollera waters the municipal district and sustains a narrow meadowland of hay meadows and poplar groves, the landscape that made possible the cattle rearing from which the valley's butter was born.
The Joint Pilgrimage of El Valle
Activity
The villages of the comarca have revived a pilgrimage festival that each year links two different settlements of the valley on foot, with mass and a picnic, to strengthen the ties between ever more depopulated councils.
The annexation of Espejo de Tera
Historical milestone
The municipality was enlarged in 1857 by incorporating Espejo de Tera, a locality that later came to depend on Almarza. Those readjustments of the 19th century drew the municipal map that is still in force in the valley.
The sexmo of Tera
Curiosity
In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the sexmo of Tera, within the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Soria, one of the divisions through which the communal use of woodland and pasture was organised across the whole comarca. The sexmos were administrative divisions that originally corresponded to a sixth part of a territory, although their number could vary; the Tierra de Soria came to be divided into five: Frentes, San Juan, Arciel, Luvia and Tera.
Montes Claros, Tabanera y Carcaña
Nature
Three mountain alignments close the horizon of the village, situated at 1,134 metres on the banks of the Tera. Between them lies a narrow valley floor along which runs the road towards the Piqueras pass.
The protected banks of the Duero
Nature
Although the municipal district barely adds up to ten square kilometres, it includes 19 hectares of the Riberas del Río Duero area, 151 of the Sierras de Urbión y Cebollera and 147 of the bird protection zone of the Sierra de Urbión.
From two hundred residents to thirty-six
Curiosity
Madoz described in the middle of the 19th century a village of seventy houses and two hundred inhabitants. In 2025 thirty-six remained: it is one of the municipalities with the smallest population in the whole of Spain and the smallest of the valley.
