Borjabad
Village
Borjabad is a hamlet in the comarca of Almazán, in the province of Soria, with 29 inhabitants, which also takes in the settlements of Valdespina and Velacha; through its municipal area, where a small protected stretch of riverbank is preserved, flows the Duero. It was constituted as a municipality, under the name Borjabaz, Valdespina y Velacha, after the fall of the Ancien Régime. It retains the Romanesque church of the Asunción and only scant remains of its old castle, known as La Turrujalba. On the second Sunday of July, villages from the surrounding area gather for the pilgrimage to the sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de Velacha, and the feast of San Juan Bautista was moved to the second-to-last Saturday of August so that the village's sons and daughters who no longer live there can take part.
