What to see and do in Villaverde de Íscar

Villaverde de Íscar
Village
Villaverde de Íscar is a village of about 579 inhabitants in the province of Segovia, born in the 11th century as a hamlet dependent on the fortified town of Íscar, today part of Valladolid, within the former Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Íscar, which also grouped together Cogeces de Íscar, Fuente el Olmo de Íscar, Megeces, Pedrajas de San Esteban and Remondo. Until 1833 it belonged to the province of Segovia. Its main source of income is the growing and selection of pine nuts, most of which arrive from neighboring Pedrajas de San Esteban, a major producer in this district. The village celebrates its festivities in honor of San Sebastián on 20 January and Santa Librada on 20 July.

Food and drink
The local economy revolves around the growing and above all the shelling and grading of pine nuts, a good part of them coming from the neighbouring pinewoods; it is one of the centres for handling this fruit in the Tierra de Pinares.
