What to see and do in Gallegos de Solmirón

Gallegos de Solmirón
Village
Gallegos de Solmirón is a municipality in the province of Salamanca, in the comarca of Guijuelo and the sub-comarca of Alto Tormes, with 109 inhabitants spread over 30.82 square kilometres at the foot of the Sierra del Mirón, which, together with the resettlers who arrived from Galicia, gave the village its name. Linked in its reconquest, in the 12th century, to the Community of Town and Land of Ávila, to which it belonged until the early 15th century, it later passed to the Kingdom of León, depending from 1425 on Salamanca for the vote in the Cortes, the province in which it was included in 1833; in the mid-19th century it had 739 inhabitants. It preserves a church under the patronage of San Juan Bautista. Gallegos de Solmirón was the birthplace of the priest and biblical scholar Evaristo Martín Nieto.
