What to see and do in Navamorales

Navamorales
Village
Navamorales, with 45 inhabitants, belongs to the natural comarca of Alto Tormes, within the comarca of Guijuelo, and is crossed by the Corneja and Tormes rivers, which meet within its territory; it borders Puente del Congosto, Villar de Corneja, Santa María del Berrocal and La Horcajada. Settlement is attested there since prehistory, with a Neolithic dolmen and Chalcolithic and Bronze Age sites, and in Roman times the area was occupied by the Vettones. There were two medieval settlements, Las Casillas and Las Berrocosas, and a chapel dedicated to Santas Justa y Rufina, whose carvings, after the building was moved to the present cemetery in 1695, are preserved today in the parish church.
The burning of the sierra by Alfonso VII
Historical milestone
The native inhabitants took refuge in the mountains so as not to submit to Christian power, raising livestock and raiding settlements. In 1140 Alfonso VII ordered the range burned over an extent of seventy kilometres to force them down to the plain.
The church of Nuestra Señora de la Natividad
Monument
The first phase of the church was finished in 1506 and was complete in 1507, according to a tithe lawsuit kept in the diocesan archive of Ávila. Its titular image, sculpted in the eighteenth century, returned to the high altar after the restoration of 2016.
The dolmen and archaeological sites of Navamorales
Nature
The municipal district preserves a dolmen of Neolithic chronology and Chalcolithic and Bronze Age sites surveyed in 1998, with Cogotas-type and maritime Bell Beaker ceramics, proof of a settlement far earlier than the resettlement.
