Quintanilla de Onsoña
Village
Quintanilla de Onsoña is a municipality in Palencia with about 170 inhabitants on the banks of the Carrión river, in the district of Vega-Valdavia, made up of six villages - Quintanilla, Portillejo, Velillas del Duque, Villaproviano, Villantodrigo and Villarmienzo - with a group of fourteen dovecotes of ethnographic interest. Its name means "Don Soña's small estate", an old owner of the place; people from Quintanilla are nicknamed raposos (foxes). According to the Catastro de la Ensenada, in the mid-18th century Quintanilla had 55 houses, 38 cellars and several wine presses and hay barns, and in 1981 the six settlements together had 197 dwellings. In Villantodrigo it preserves a church of Templar design, and on Corpus Christi it lays out floral carpets along its streets.
