What to see and do in Micieces de Ojeda

Micieces de Ojeda
Village
Micieces de Ojeda is a hamlet of about 67 inhabitants in the Palencia area of La Ojeda, which also includes the settlement of Berzosa de los Hidalgos, with views from its heights to the Espigüete and the Curavacas. It preserves three water mills by the Cuérgano stream and, less than a kilometre from the village, the Romanesque hermitage of San Lorenzo, with a plain doorway of two archivolts decorated with bee cells and lozenges and a 17th-century baroque altarpiece dedicated to the saint. For years it was the final point of the village's rogation processions. It celebrates San Lorencillo on 10 August, and in November the Virgen de la Calle closes the festive year with the Guerra de los Pelusos.
Hermitage of San Lorenzo de Micieces
Monument
Less than a kilometre from the village, this hermitage preserves a simple Romanesque doorway of two archivolts with diamond-point decoration and holds a seventeenth-century Baroque altarpiece dedicated to the saint.
The Vírgenes de la Calle of Micieces
Curiosity
On 20 and 21 November the village celebrates the Vírgenes de la Calle, a festival of bonfires and local customs that survives in a municipality that no longer reaches seventy registered inhabitants.
