Villaturiel
Village
Villaturiel is a municipality in the La Sobarriba comarca, in León, with about 1,815 inhabitants, thirteen kilometres from the capital, spread across fourteen villages on a high plateau with some isolated hills enclosing the rivers Bernesga to the west, Esla to the south, and Porma to the east. The altitude ranges between the 893 metres of the Cueto del Mixto hill and the 778 metres at the mouth of the Bernesga in the Esla, while the town centre stands at 796 metres. In the mid-19th century the place had barely 129 inhabitants, and Madoz then recorded harvests of grain, flax and hemp.
