Villasabariego
Village
Villasabariego is a municipality of about 1,155 inhabitants in the Eslonza valley, spread across nine villages among the Porma, Esla and Eslonza rivers, the last of which runs under the name río Moro and flows into the Porma near Villarente. Its altitude ranges between 795 and 950 metres, and the town centre stands at 882. It preserves the altarpiece of the church of Villabúrbula, hermitage caves and churches, sculptures and Romanesque baptismal fonts scattered across its villages, as well as a stretch of the Way of St James. On its territory once stood Lancia, the great Astur city that the Romans took and Romanised, today an archaeological site open to visitors.

Eslonza Valley
Nature
The Eslonza valley is a León region formed by the lands carved by the river Eslonza, also called río Moro, which rises in the Campazas valley and flows into the river Porma next to the Villarente bridge. It stretches between the present-day municipalities of Gradefes and Villasabariego, running through the hills that separate the valleys of the Esla and Porma rivers, and includes the settlements of Mellanzos, Santa Olaja de Eslonza, Villarmún and Palazuelo de Eslonza. On its slopes are preserved the so-called hermit caves, hollows dug into the clay banks of the valley.
