Padilla de Arriba
Village
Padilla de Arriba is a municipality in the province of Burgos, in the Odra-Pisuerga district, with 86 inhabitants according to the 2025 register, situated on the plain between the Odra and Pisuerga rivers, with the Peña Amaya in the background. The territory preserves Celtiberian remains and several Roman and medieval sites; the Romans called it Patella de Suso, and its present origin lies in the first repopulation wave of the 10th century. It is documented as Padilla de Suso in the 1352 Becerro de las Behetrías; by the mid-19th century it had 420 inhabitants. It preserves the church of San Andrés Apóstol, with a semicircular Romanesque apse supported by three columns with plant-motif capitals, and a 10th-century bell tower, originally defensive, attached to the chancel.
