Santa Olalla de Bureba
Village
Santa Olalla de Bureba is a municipality in the comarca of La Bureba, in the province of Burgos, 26 kilometres from the capital, beside the N-1 road and the Autovía del Norte, at the point where the plateau, which to the north reaches 1,088 metres, descends towards the Bureba plain. Its name, Santa Olaja in origin, means Santa Eulalia and it shares it with two other localities in León and Palencia. It was a crown town of the cuadrilla of Prádano, one of the seven into which the Merindad de Bureba was divided, and after the fall of the Old Regime, in 1833, it was constituted as a town council with 144 inhabitants, a figure now reduced to 38. From here came the Latinist Santiago Segura Munguía, professor at the University of Deusto.
