Villariezo
Village
Villariezo is a municipality of 731 inhabitants in the Alfoz de Burgos comarca, located 8 km from the provincial capital beside the Ausines stream, which was a seigneury of the Count of Villariezo, under the jurisdiction of a pedáneo mayor. It preserves the bridge over the Ausín and the church of San Pedro Cátedra, with notable wrought-iron work by Félix and Manuel Saiz, as well as the Plaza Mayor and the town hall. Between 2005 and 2010 it became famous for its Guinness records, among them the longest blood sausage, the largest cheese and the largest potato omelette (tortilla). It also has the largest Bolo Burgalés (Burgos skittles) club in the province, with more than 50 registered members, and Villariezo FC, which has competed in category 1 of the Trofeo Diputación since 1998.
