Santibáñez del Val
Village
Santibáñez del Val is a municipality of 64 inhabitants in the Arlanza comarca, in the province of Burgos, which also includes the settlement of Barriosuso. It is located in the valley formed by the Mataviejas river, beside the Hocejo stream, within the Sabinares del Arlanza Natural Area, 5 km from Santo Domingo de Silos and 2 km from Quintanilla del Coco, along the BU-900 road, on the Ruta de la Lana and next to the Camino del Destierro del Cid Campeador. Between the two villages, on a cliff above the Mataviejas river, stands the Mozarabic hermitage of Santa Cecilia, built around the year 900 with a horseshoe-arched triumphal arch. Its parish church is dedicated to San Juan, and the village festivities are held in August, usually on the third weekend of the month.
