Gutierre-Muñoz
Village
Gutierre-Muñoz is an abulense hamlet of 63 inhabitants, set at 885 metres beside the royal drove road that linked Madrid with Valladolid, from which it arose as a population centre during the 11th-century repopulation of the lands of Ávila, led by Raimundo de Borgoña under the orders of Alfonso VI. Here died, at 58 and stricken with fevers, King Alfonso VIII of Castile, the one of Las Navas, on 5 October 1214, while travelling towards Plasencia to meet his son-in-law, King Alfonso II of Portugal. In the mid-19th century the village had 334 inhabitants.
