Fuentes de Año
Village
Fuentes de Año is a town of about 90 inhabitants in the district of La Moraña, province of Ávila, crossed by the Valtodano river, a tributary of the Zapardiel, which preserves a distinctive riverside forest in a heavily deforested district, although today it runs dry for much of the year owing to the overexploitation of groundwater. Its flow, historically low, allowed two mills to be kept running, the Arriba and the Abajo, which gave the river its popular nickname of arroyo de Los Molinos. The town, of farming and livestock character, was a pioneer in the district in growing sugar beet, favoured by the abundance of groundwater; it has a rectangular square, laid out before the settlement itself and presided over by the palace of the Count of Valdeláguila.
