What to see and do in Donjimeno

Donjimeno
Village
Donjimeno is a hamlet in the province of Ávila, in the district of la Moraña, with 69 inhabitants according to the 2025 census, situated at 883 metres of altitude and 55 kilometres from the provincial capital. On its land, in the laguna del Regajal, rises the Valtodano river, a tributary of the Zapardiel. Its origin lies in the repopulation process that followed the conquest of Toledo at the end of the 11th century; it has always been a small farming settlement, never with a population above half a thousand, which in the mid-19th century had 117 inhabitants. It preserves the 16th-century church, tiny beside its bell tower, the work of Esteban Frontino and decorated with brick friezes and sgraffito.
Mudéjar tower of the church of the Assumption
Monument
A slender brick tower crowned with a spire that can be seen from across the countryside; it preserves sgraffito with geometric motifs, more usual in Segovia than in the Tierra de Arévalo, and proves the survival of Mudéjar forms well into the sixteenth century.
