Constanzana
Village
Constanzana is a village in the district of La Moraña, in the province of Ávila, with about 104 inhabitants, situated at 890 metres of altitude, near the town of Fontiveros and 22 kilometres from Arévalo. The settlement probably dates from the 13th century, within the repopulation that followed the Christian conquest of Toledo; the earliest known reference to the place appears in the work of Gonzalo de Berceo, in connection with the legendary tribute of the sixty maidens that the Christian kingdoms had to hand over to the caliph Abderramán III (912-961). Its only monument is the mudéjar church of San Martín, which preserves part of the apse and a Renaissance wooden ceiling compared to that of the Old Cathedral of Salamanca.
