What to see and do in Santa Cruz de Pinares

Santa Cruz de Pinares
Village
Santa Cruz de Pinares is a village of 169 inhabitants at 1010 metres of altitude, beside the El Burguillo reservoir, in a sierra with springs, centuries-old holm oak woods and pine woods. It takes its name from the church of the Exaltación de la Santa Cruz, built of ashlar in the 16th century, whose main altarpiece houses an alabaster Magdalene attributed to the sculptor Juan Rodríguez. The town hall, dating from the reign of Charles III, bears the coat of arms of the Casa de Tamames. On the outskirts stand two hermitages, that of the Inmaculada and that of the Consuelo, as well as the Cunas de Moros, a rock-cut necropolis of possible Visigothic origin. At El Molinillo, where a portable bullring used to be set up for the festivals, the municipal sports centre was built in 2009.
The alabaster altarpiece of Santa María Magdalena
Monument
The 16th-century stone church holds an alabaster altarpiece with the figure of Santa María Magdalena, attributed to the sculptor Juan Rodríguez and the piece of greatest artistic value of a village of fewer than two hundred households.
The Cradles of the Moors
Curiosity
A necropolis of anthropomorphic graves cut into the rock, of the Visigothic period, known by that popular name. They complete an inventory that includes the town hall from the time of Carlos III with the arms of the house of Tamames.
