What to see and do in Navalperal de Pinares

Navalperal de Pinares
Village
Navalperal de Pinares is a municipality in the province of Ávila situated at 1284 metres above sea level, among heights ranging from around 1200 to 1500 metres — the highest, the Valpardo, at 1517 — whose springs feed the Becedas river. It arose beside the Cañada Real Leonesa Oriental, from a land grant that the council of Ávila gave to Domingo Ximénez in 1286; his heirs sold it in 1473 to Pedro Dávila Bracamonte, and in the seventeenth century it passed to the marquisate of Las Navas, within which it remained in the eighteenth century under the Duke of Santisteban, until the Crown expropriated it from the Duchy of Medinaceli in 1805. In the mid-nineteenth century it had 410 inhabitants, against 840 today. Its nearly five thousand hectares of pastureland still feed close to two thousand cattle.
Hermitage of San Antonio de Navalperal
Monument
It was built between 1892 and 1896 and was dedicated to San Antonio de Padua. It is accompanied in the village's heritage by two public fountains: La Pila, moved to the municipal park, and the fountain of La Canal, of two spouts and of the beginning of the 20th century.
Valpardo Peak
Nature
At 1,517 metres it is the highest point of a district that ranges between 1,200 and 1,500 metres, with meadows, Pyrenean oak woods and pine woods fed by springs that sustain the municipality's cattle.
The purchase of the municipal land by its residents
Historical milestone
Under the Madoz disentailment law (1855), the residents acquired the whole of the municipal territory for 213,300 reales, closing centuries of seigneurial dependence that had passed through the Dávila family and the marquisate of Las Navas.
