What to see and do in Nombela

Nombela
Village
Municipality of the comarca of Torrijos, in the province of Toledo, which holds the distinction of being the Spanish municipality furthest from the sea, some 430 kilometres from the nearest beach; it preserves a Renaissance rollo de justicia formed by a thick Tuscan column topped by four lions and a small conical-roofed canopy, and the church of la Asunción, a three-nave temple built at the beginning of the sixteenth century in rubble and ashlar, and it keeps up the fire that the conscripts light on Christmas Eve.
The Justice Pillar of Nombela
Monument
Renaissance rollo erected in 1570, when Philip II exempted Nombela from the jurisdiction of the Duchy of Escalona by royal decree of 17 May, granting it the title of town. It stands on a base of three square steps, formed by a thick Tuscan column topped by four projecting lions and, above them, a small four-pilaster temple with a conical roof and a ball as its final finial.
Church of la Asunción de Nombela
Monument
Church with three naves built at the beginning of the 16th century in rubble masonry and ashlar.
Spain's Municipality Farthest from the Sea
Curiosity
Nombela holds the distinction of being the Spanish municipality located furthest from the sea, and indeed from anywhere on the Iberian Peninsula, some 430 kilometres from the nearest beach, that of La Malvarrosa, in Valencia. The fact has caused some confusion, as this record is sometimes wrongly attributed to other municipalities such as Seseña or Escalona, when it is Nombela that officially holds the distinction of the Spanish village furthest from the coast.
Bonfire of the Quintos of Nombela
Activity
Bonfire lit by the village's conscripts on Christmas Eve, one of the most deeply rooted winter traditions.
