What to see and do in Nuño Gómez

Nuño Gómez
Village
Nuño Gómez is a municipality in the Sierra de San Vicente, in Toledo, set on flat ground at the foot of the sierra, next to the San Benito stream. In the 14th century it belonged to the jurisdiction of Castillo de Bayuela, until it obtained the title of town in 1655; from 1833 it was part of the Tierras de Talavera, although until 1837 it remained linked to the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Ávila and until 1955 to the diocese of Ávila. It has traditionally been a farming village, producing in the 19th century wheat, rye, barley, chickpeas and silk, with cattle, sheep and pigs. It preserves the parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, from the late 15th or early 16th century, and a stone and wood farrier's frame that recalls that agricultural and livestock-raising past. It has 178 inhabitants.

Nuño Gómez, a Town since 1655
Curiosity
The town was a hamlet of Castillo de Bayuela until 1655, when it broke away from its former head town and obtained the title of villa, by a grant made by the Duke of Híjar. Nuño Gómez, in the Sierra de San Vicente district (Toledo), thus became an independent entity with its own government.
