What to see and do in Arcicóllar

Arcicóllar
Village
Arcicóllar is a municipality in the Torrijos comarca, in Toledo, on a plain next to the Cantaelgallo and Vallehermoso streams, tributaries of the Guadarrama, with 1,089 inhabitants. Its name, documented in the mid-12th century as Darcilla or Arcicolla, could derive from "potter's house." It is first mentioned in 1141, when Alfonso VII handed the town over to the archdeacon of Segovia, Juan, and to canon Arnaldo de Corvín; in 1159 Corvín donated his share to several settlers, the moment when the village was founded. Its main monument is the 16th-century church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, and its main economic activity is viticulture, with wines protected by the Méntrida Designation of Origin.
