What to see and do in Cardiel de los Montes

Cardiel de los Montes
Village
Cardiel de los Montes is a municipality in the Sierra de San Vicente comarca, in the province of Toledo, with 406 inhabitants (INE 2025), on a plain watered by the Saucedoso and San Benito streams, tributaries of the Alberche, a river that runs two kilometres away, where the El Rincón del Alberche recreational area extends. Considered one of the oldest settlements in the area, it obtained the title of town in the 16th century, with Enrique Dávila as lord, who had inherited Navamorcuende-Cardiel on his nephew's death. It preserves in its centre the pillar of justice, a symbol of that municipal autonomy, and the church of Santiago Apóstol, from that same century. In winter the residents share food at the feast of Santa Brígida, on 1 February, and in October at those of the Virgen del Rosario.
