Mirabueno
Village
Mirabueno is a municipality of the northern sierra of Guadalajara, at 1,067 metres of altitude, with around 86 inhabitants and a population that keeps shrinking. The Ruta de la Lana passes through its territory, between Las Inviernas and Mandayona, and in 1938, during the Civil War, a unit of Catalan requetés stationed here witnessed the reconstruction of the church, then destroyed, by a battalion of prisoners. Its parish church, dedicated to Nuestra Señora de Mirabueno, is each May the destination of a pilgrimage in which more than forty villages take part, organised into three cuadrillas according to whether they come from the valleys of the Tajuña, the Badiel or the Henares; the territory also preserves a holm oak wood.
