Matillas
Village
Matillas is a municipality of 111 inhabitants situated beside the río Henares, at 818 metres of altitude, in the comarca of the Serranía de Guadalajara. In the mid-19th century it had barely 59 inhabitants, according to Madoz's Dictionary. Its present-day settlement grew up around a cement factory and the railway station, a kilometre and a half from the original settlement, now depopulated and known as Matillas la Vieja. Its climate, temperate with a dry, hot summer, corresponds to the Csa type of the Köppen classification.
