What to see and do in Zaorejas

Zaorejas
Village
Zaorejas is a municipality of the comarca of the Señorío de Molina, in the province of Guadalajara, located within the Alto Tajo natural park, which has a visitor centre in the town. The river Gallo crosses its municipal area and flows into the Tajo at the site known as the Puente de San Pedro. At the site of Linares de la Cañada remains of a Celtiberian settlement of the Titti tribe have been found, and beside the Roman arch preserved in the village two people murdered during the Civil War were buried. The town was linked for five centuries to the trade of the gancheros, who floated logs cut in these pine forests downriver to Aranjuez; it preserves a museum dedicated to those log drives on the Tajo, a trade recognised as intangible heritage since 2022.
The gancheros and the log drives of the Tagus
Historical milestone
For five centuries the gancheros drove downriver the trunks cut in these pine forests, guiding them with the hook as far as Aranjuez. The trade died out with road transport; the town preserves its museum and the trade has been intangible heritage since 2022.
