Yélamos de Arriba
Village
Yélamos de Arriba, formerly called Yélamos de Suso, is a municipality of the La Alcarria comarca, in the province of Guadalajara, with 97 inhabitants, located in the valley of the San Andrés stream, a tributary of the Tajuña, upstream of Yélamos de Abajo, Irueste and Romanones. The valley, carved by fluvial erosion into a karstic plain, has a limestone and karstified relief, with numerous natural caves in its walls and a notable abundance of springs, some fitted out as fountains, which allow a forest lushness and the cultivation of vegetable gardens in contrast to the dry cereal farming of the surrounding plain. Its church of Nuestra Señora de la Zarza probably dates from the 16th or 17th centuries, and it preserves the hermitages of San Roque and Santa Ana and a fountain in the square built in 1928.
