Sayatón
Village
Sayatón is a municipality in the comarca of La Alcarria, in the province of Guadalajara, situated beside the Tagus and the Bolarque reservoir, in the area known as the Desierto de Bolarque. The town was founded in the late 15th or early 16th century by the Calvete brothers, and around 1535, in the time of Charles I, it was sold to Ana de la Cerda, grandmother of the Princess of Éboli and lady of Pastrana. In the early 20th century the Tajuña railway arrived, which had a station here with substantial facilities until the closure of the Orusco-Auñón section in 1953. It retains the church of San Pedro ad Víncula and, in the area of Anguix within its territory, the castle of the same name. Today it has barely 64 inhabitants, compared with the 346 recorded by Pascual Madoz in the mid-19th century.
