What to see and do in Santa Cruz de Moya

Santa Cruz de Moya
Village
Santa Cruz de Moya is a municipality in the comarca of Serranía Media-Campichuelo y Serranía Baja, in the province of Cuenca, on the border with Teruel and Valencia, where the village overlooks the Turia valley from the hillside of the castillo de Sierra, a former Arab fortress conquered in 1219 by the archbishop of Toledo. It belonged to the Marquisate of Moya until the 19th century and today lives from olives, almonds and the market gardens irrigated by the Turia as it passes the hamlets of La Olmeda and Las Rinconadas. In 1991 the Monument to the Guerrillero was erected in memory of the maquis of the Levante and Aragón Guerrilla Group, who moved through these mountains during the post-war period; every autumn it hosts memorial gatherings bringing together relatives, researchers and associations. It has 233 inhabitants.
