What to see and do in Moya

Moya
Village
Moya is a municipality of Serranía Media-Campichuelo y Serranía Baja, in Cuenca, heart of the historic Marquesado de Moya. It is made up of the Villa y el Castillo de Moya, today uninhabited, and four pedanías, among them Santo Domingo de Moya, where the town hall is located. Settled — never conquered — by Alfonso VIII in 1210, Ferdinand III consolidated it with charters and privileges, and in 1215 Henry I granted it to the Order of Santiago; after passing to the royal domain (realengo) in 1319, it experienced its greatest splendour when the Catholic Monarchs gave the marquisate in 1480 to Andrés de Cabrera and Beatriz de Bobadilla, lady-in-waiting to Isabella I, although in 1520 and 1521 it rose up against its lords in the Revolt of the Comuneros. The village stands at 1,019 metres, and the ruins of its castle, on a nearby hill, at 1,149.
