Reíllo
Village
Reíllo is a municipality in Serranía Media-Campichuelo y Serranía Baja, in the province of Cuenca, crossed from north to south by the valley of the río Guadazaón, at 1,091 metres above sea level amid the wooded pastureland and uneven terrain of the comarca. At the Cerro del Castillo site, a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection), archaeological finds have been documented, including a decorated firedog in the shape of a ram's head, Iberian pottery with possible astral motifs, and Attic vessels from the 5th century BC. In the church of La Concepción there is an inscription in memory of its parish priest Carlos de la Rica. On the second Sunday of May, the patroness, La Abuela Santa Ana, is carried in procession to Carboneras de Guadazaón, with a mass and communal meal; its festival of San Roque is celebrated in the week of 16 August. It has 106 inhabitants.
