Pajarón
Village
Pajarón is a municipality in the comarca of Serranía Media-Campichuelo y Serranía Baja, in the province of Cuenca, situated at 1,051 metres above sea level with 71 inhabitants. It is dominated by a castle-keep of Muslim origin, raised on a hillock to the northwest, beneath which lies the municipal cemetery. It preserves the parish church of San Pedro Apóstol, which suffered the burning of its images and the destruction of its bells during the Revolution of 1936. In its municipal area, on 21 August 1289, the Battle of Pajarón was fought, in which the troops of Diego López de Haro defeated those of Sancho IV, commanded by the chief justice Ruy Páez de Sotomayor: the grand commander of Uclés and thirteen friars of the Order of Santiago fell, and the royal standards were captured.
