The Catholic Monarchs granted in 1480 the marquisate to Andrés de Cabrera and to Beatriz de Bobadilla, lady-in-waiting to Isabel I. The town then lived its greatest splendour, although in 1520 and 1521 it rose against its lords during the war of the Comunidades.
