La Hinojosa
Village
La Hinojosa is a municipality in the La Mancha Conquense district, in the province of Cuenca, situated in La Mancha Alta at 939 metres above sea level, with a population of 184 inhabitants. Its territory preserves the Los Dornajos site, a reference for the study of peninsular prehistory, with occupation documented since the Palaeolithic. Fennel, an aromatic plant abundant in the area, gives the village its name and appears on its coat of arms; of the old communal hillside, cleared for agriculture in the early 19th century, only a few hectares remain today, known as El Chaparral. Among its traditions, Los Mayos, sung on the night of 30 April, and the San Bernardino pilgrimage, on 20 and 21 May, stand out.
