What to see and do in Belmontejo

Belmontejo
Village
Belmontejo, in the La Mancha Conquense district, lies on the way towards the Serranía, at 878 metres above sea level, on land of estates, olive groves and riverside woods beside the río Marimota, which flows into the Alarcón reservoir. It was the lordship of Rodrigo Manrique in the 15th century. Its parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción occupies the highest point of the town and holds much of its historical and artistic heritage. The municipality, with a continental Mediterranean climate and an Iberian steppe landscape, had 656 inhabitants in the mid-19th century, compared with 122 today.
