Albaladejo del Cuende
Village
A municipality in the Serranía Media-Campichuelo y Serranía Baja district, in the province of Cuenca, located at about 920 meters of altitude and crossed by the river Júcar, 43 kilometers south of the provincial capital. In 1080, after conquering Cuenca from the Muslims, Alfonso VIII granted lands within its municipal area to the Cistercian monks of the Santa María de Huerta monastery, a sign that the place already had a significant population center at that time. It preserves the church of the Asunción de Nuestra Señora, today in ruins, and the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves, patron saint of the village. In her honor, summer festivities are held at the beginning of August, with popular bullfighting events, dancing, an open-air dance and a procession.
