What to see and do in Pleitas

Pleitas
Village
Pleitas is a small municipality in the Ribera Alta del Ebro, in Zaragoza, with 29 inhabitants, on the left bank of the río Jalón, with a municipal area of barely two square kilometres. It was the lordship of Ximeno de Arenoso in the 13th century, and in 1266 his widow donated the town and its castle to the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, under whose rule it remained for more than five centuries, following the final handover of the castle to the Commander of Zaragoza in 1274. After the expulsion of the Moriscos in 1610, the town was left almost depopulated and needed new settlers, who in 1616 accepted the lands allotted to them. From 1316 dates an arbitration award by Archbishop Pedro de Luna on the sharing of the irrigation waters of the Pleitas, Pedrola, Luceni and Urrea acequia (irrigation channel), still in force centuries later.
