What to see and do in Urrea de Jalón

Urrea de Jalón
Village
Urrea de Jalón is a municipality of Valdejalón, in the province of Zaragoza, with 434 inhabitants (INE 2025), reconquered in the 12th century by Alfonso I the Battler: it was a lordship of Sancho Martínez de Oblitas in 1254 and passed in 1326 to the Ximénez de Urrea lineage, which would later obtain the title of counts of Aranda. The old town preserves its medieval layout of arched alleyways, evidence of its Moorish past, alongside an extensive district of cave houses now prized for their energy efficiency. The church of San Salvador, from the 16th century and in Mudejar style, has a single nave with a polygonal apse covered by a star vault. The municipal area also preserves the remains of Orosa castle and the Torre del Castilluelo.
