Bordalba
Village
Bordalba is a small municipality in the Comunidad de Calatayud comarca, in Zaragoza, at about 930 metres in altitude and on the old border between Aragon and Castile, with 47 inhabitants (INE 2025) compared with 450 in the mid-19th century. In its castle, on 21 January 1296, James II of Aragon and the infante Alfonso de la Cerda, who styled himself king of Castile and León, met to agree on the division of territories should the latter recover his grandfather's throne. The town was taken by the Castilians in the War of the Two Peters in 1357 and reincorporated into Aragon in 1361 by Peter IV, who sold his rights to Guillén de Palafox; that family's lordship over Bordalba was confirmed by Charles I. Remains of the castle survive, and the parish church is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception.
