What to see and do in Villarroya del Campo

Villarroya del Campo
Village
Villarroya del Campo is a municipality in the comarca of Campo de Daroca, in the province of Zaragoza, with 70 inhabitants, situated at 900 metres above sea level at the confluence of the Orcajo and Villarroya streams. The first inhabitants, around the 5th century BC, were the Celtiberians, who built a settlement of mud constructions surrounded by a defensive wall and a large moat cut into the rock, on the upper part of the rise known today as El Castillo; with the stones from its ruins the villagers built the hermitage and the church, which is why today only fragments of wall and the moat remain. It preserves the church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario, from the 17th century, with a 31-panel altarpiece from the school of Daroca, formed by the union of three altarpieces from the 15th and 16th centuries.
