What to see and do in Mezalocha

Mezalocha
Village
Mezalocha is a municipality in the province of Zaragoza, in the Campo de Cariñena district, with 197 inhabitants and an area of 60.64 square kilometres that includes the locality of Aylés. It sits at 484 metres above sea level, on a hill above a ravine on the left bank of the Huerva river, whose upstream waters are regulated by a reservoir built in the early 20th century. It preserves the church of San Miguel Arcángel, whose feast day is celebrated on 29 September, as well as the festival of San Antonio, on 13 June, and the patron saint festivities of San Agustín, on 28 August.

Nature
A reservoir on the River Huerva built in 1903, also known as the Marimarta dam, with 180 hectares of water surface.
Mountain range of Algairén
Nature
The Sierra de Algairén, which separates the Campo de Cariñena from the Huerva valley, is part of the Iberian System and stretches from Alpartir to Mainar, running parallel to the Ebro valley, between the comarcas of Campo de Cariñena and Valdejalón. Its highest point is the Pico de Valdemadera, at 1,276 metres, accessible from Tobed, a town that serves as the usual starting point for hikers. It is formed of Cambrian slates and quartzites, uplifted during the Alpine folding between two large faults; the Alpartir ravine divides its north-western sector into two branches. Among its Mediterranean vegetation the cork oak stands out, an uncommon species in Aragon, along with rosemary, rockrose, juniper, holm oak and pine plantations. It is designated a Site of Community Importance within the Natura 2000 network.
Festivities of invierno de Mezalocha
