What to see and do in Fuendejalón

Fuendejalón
Village
Fuendejalón is a wine-growing municipality of the Campo de Borja (Zaragoza), situated at 472 metres above sea level, 66 km from the provincial capital and 13 km from Borja. After the Reconquest it depended on the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem from 1257, when Doña Constanza handed it to the castellan of Amposta, linked to the commandery of Mallén, from which the eight-pointed cross on its coat of arms derives. In September 1936 María Domínguez, mayor of neighbouring Gallur and Spain's second female mayor, was shot beside the village cemetery by the Francoist side. It preserves a quarter of wine cellars dug into the rock, one of them turned into a museum, El Churro, with traditional presses and jars, and it forms part of the wine-tourism route of the denomination of origin. It has 774 inhabitants (INE 2025).

Activity
Festivities of Fuendejalón on 24 June, for San Juan Bautista, with the custom of hanging branches on streets and houses the night before; the main festivities, on 24 May, honour the Virgen del Castillo, who is also carried in procession on the fourth Sunday of October for the young men's feast.
Cooperative wineries of Campo de Borja
Curiosity
Network of modernist and post-war cooperative wineries that form the backbone of the Campo de Borja wine route, a comarca with its own designation of origin. Among the wineries of Fuendejalón, that of El Churro stands out, dedicated to the legendary jota singer of that name, which today houses the Museo El Churro.
Trail of las bodegas del Campo de Borja
Activity
The Campo de Borja Denominación de Origen extends across the Aragonese comarca of the same name, in the west of the province of Zaragoza, with Borja as its capital, and produces mostly red wines, along with rosés increasingly valued by critics; its young wines also enjoy great popularity among the public. The route runs through the cooperative wineries of municipalities such as Fuendejalón, right at the heart of this wine-producing area.

Food and drink
Fuendejalón preserves a quarter of cellars dug into the rock where the wine of the households was made and kept. One of them has been turned into a museum under the name of El Churro and shows wine presses, earthenware jars and traditional winemaking tools.
