What to see and do in La Puebla de Albortón

La Puebla de Albortón
Village
La Puebla de Albortón is a small municipality in the Campo de Belchite, in the province of Zaragoza, situated at 483 metres above sea level, 42 kilometres from the capital, 20 from Fuendetodos, Goya's birthplace, and 16 from Belchite. It is believed to stand on the remains of Ebora, a city cited by the Greek geographer Ptolemy and inhabited by the Sedetani. It was formally created in the 14th century through a late Christian resettlement from Belchite, and belonged to the lordship of the Monastery of Rueda until 1432, when Queen María de Luna sold it, together with Belchite and Almonacid de la Cuba, to the nobleman Juan de Híjar. A dryland area, it today shares crops of cereals, vines, olives and almonds, whose late-summer harvest is used for turrón, guirlache and oven-baked pastries.
