What to see and do in Cañada de Benatanduz

Cañada de Benatanduz
Village
Cañada de Benatanduz is a municipality of Teruel, in the Maestrazgo cultural park, in the gorges of the river of the same name, at the foot of the Sierra de la Cañada, at 1,422 metres above sea level, the highest point in the comarca. It has three quarters, Monjuí, San Cristóbal and La Magdalena; in the first are preserved the remains of its old castle, now a cemetery. Its name mixes Christian and Islamic elements: after the Reconquest it came under the Order of the Temple, which granted it a founding charter in 1198, one of the oldest in the area. During the Carlist Wars, in the 1870s, some residents, led by the parish priest himself, formed Carlist bands. Its main activity remains agriculture and livestock farming, with cereals predominating. It has 40 inhabitants.
