Villanueva del Rebollar de la Sierra
Village
Villanueva del Rebollar de la Sierra is a small municipality of the Cuencas Mineras, in the province of Teruel, with 49 inhabitants, situated at almost 1,100 metres above sea level on broken terrain. It belonged to the comunidad de aldeas of Teruel, in the sesma of the Río Martín, and was called Villanueva until the mid-17th century and Villanueva del Rebollar from 1646, because of the many rebollos on its land, until in 1916 the epithet “de la Sierra” was added, giving it today the longest municipal name in Spain. Its baroque church of San Cristóbal, from the 17th century, holds a Romanesque image of the Virgen from the 13th century, and in its territory stands the hermitage of the Purísima Concepción, also from the 17th century. The patron saints are San Cristóbal, on 10 July, and Santa Bárbara, on 4 December.
