Bea
Village
Bea is a small municipality in the Jiloca comarca, in the province of Teruel, situated deep in the Iberian System, between the Sierra de Cucalón and Sierra de Oriche to the north and that of Fonfría to the south, where the Pelarda peak rises, the highest point in the municipality at 1,512 metres. It is crossed from east to west by the Huerva river, which rises in neighbouring Fonfría and flows into the Ebro as it passes through Zaragoza. In 1248, by privilege of James I, it broke away from Daroca and joined the Sesma de Barrachina, in force until its dissolution in 1838. Its inhabitants grow cereals, fodder crops, potatoes, beets and beans, and raise sheep and cattle. It preserves the baroque church of San Bartolomé and the hermitage of San Jorge. With 30 inhabitants, it celebrates Our Lady of the Rosary on the first Sunday of August.
